Owl Service Sweater Knitting Pattern

Owl Service Sweater Knitting Pattern
The pattern on this long-sleeved, crew necked, jumper, was inspired by The Owl Service, a book, by Alan Garner, about teenagers, forbidden first love, and a dinner service whose pattern could be understood as flowers, or (sinister) owls. The Owl Service was itself based on the Blodeuwedd story from the Welsh fokloric Mabinogion, in which Lew, a man forbidden to marry, creates Blodeuwuedd out of flowers and oak branches, to be his wife. Blodeuwedd has an affair while Lew is away, then plots to kill him, and ultimately the magicians that brought her to life from flowers and branches turn her into an owl, to be ostracized by all the other birds.
