Description

Materials: you will need approximately 50 grams of 4ply yarn, and a 40cm circumference 3mm circular needle.

First, measure the circumference of the head you want to knit for. These are the sizes described in the pattern:

Size 1: 45 cm circumference, suitable for a small child

Size 2: 51.5 cm circumference, suitable for a medium adult or large child

Size 3: 58 cm circumference, suitable for a large adult

Start:
Cast on 110 (134, 150) stitches on your circular needle.

Work knit 1 purl 1 rib for 6 rows.

Knit the next round, in which you should increase by 10 stitches approximately evenly over the course of the round. You should now have 120 (144, 160) stitches.

Continue working in stocking stitch, i.e. knit every round, until the work measures 16 (21, 23) cm in depth, or until you achieve the hat depth you want.

Place a marker.

Shape the crown of the hat:
**Knit 2 stitches, then knit 2 together **; repeat from ** to ** until you reach the marker. You should now have 90 (108, 120) stitches.

Knit 1 round.

**Knit 1 stitch, then knit 2 together **; repeat from ** to ** until you reach the marker. You should now have 60 (72, 80) stitches.

Knit 1 round.

**Knit 2 stitches together **; repeat from ** to ** until you reach the marker.

You should now have 30 (36, 40) stitches.

**Knit 2 stitches together **; repeat from ** to ** until you reach the marker.

You should now have 15 (18, 20) stitches.

**Knit 2 stitches together **; repeat from ** to ** until you reach the marker.

You should now have 8 (9, 10) stitches.

Break the yarn with enough left to thread back through the remaining stitches, pull together, and secure.
