Your Customized DK Sock Knitting Pattern

Tension

Approximately 24 stitches and 30 rows per 10cm.

Materials

150g of Double Knitting weight sock yarn, and a set of double pointed 3mm knitting needles.

Glossary

P = Purl
K = Knit
S = Slip stitch from left to right needle without working
K2tog = Knit 2 stitches together
P2tog = Purl 2 stitches together
S2K2tog = Slip 2 stitches knitwise from the left needle to the right needle, then knit those 2 stitches together on the right needle.

Start

Cast on stitches, and arrange them over 3 double pointed 3mm needles, placing a marker between the first and last stitches.

Work 0 rounds in K1 P1 rib, then knit a further 0 rounds, or until the cuff of the sock is the depth you want it to be.

Divide for the heel flap

  1. Turn.
  2. S1, P-1, then turn;
  3. (S1, K1) 0 times, then turn;

Repeat steps 2 and 3, -1 more times, until the heel flap has 0 rows.

Shape the heel

Continuing on the heel flap,

  • S1 stitch, P1, P2tog, P1, then turn;
  • S1, K5, S2K2tog, K1, then turn;
  • S1, P6, P2tog, P1, then turn;
  • S1, K7, S2K2tog, K1, then turn;
  • S1, P8, P2tog, P1, then turn;
  • S1, K9, S2K2tog, K1, then turn;

Continue in this way until you have picked up all the stitches from the heel flap.

Shape the heel gusset

  1. Pick up 0 stitches knitwise down side 1 of the heel flap. Place a marker.
  2. Knit across the 0 stitches from the cuff.
  3. Place a marker, then pick up 0 stitches knitwise up side 2 of the heel flap.

Next, work the following 2 rounds, until stitches remain

    • Knit up to 3 stitches away from the first marker, then K2tog, K1.
    • Knit across until you reach the next marker.
    • K1, S2K2tog, then knit to the end of the round.
  1. Knit a round without decreasing.

Complete the body of the sock

When you have stitches remaining, continue without decreasing for approximately -3 rounds. You can adjust the length at this point by knitting more/fewer rounds here, depending on how your tension is working out, & how snug you like your socks to be, and bearing in mind that the toe you will knit will be approximately 0 cm deep.

Shape the toe

You should still have your start-of-round and mid-round markers in place from when you shaped the heel. That is, a marker at the beginning of the round (the side of the sock) and a marker after 0 stitches (the other side of the sock) and stitches in total.

    • K1, S2K2tog.

    • Knit up to 3 stitches before the mid-round marker,then K2tog, K1.
    • K1, S2K2tog.
    • Knit up to 3 stitches before the start/end of round marker, then K2tog, K1..

  1. (S1 Purlwise, K1), repeat to the end of the round without decreasing.

Repeat these 2 rounds until -8 stitches remain.

Arrange the remaining -8 stitches (a set of -4 stitches between each set of markers), so that the -4 stitches from between each set of markers are each on a separate double pointed needle, then graft the stitches together (see below for grafting instructions).

Knit another sock the same.
