this is what the hares should look like, without the delineation around the arm, and, ahem, not squiffy at one side.
BLANKET CLUB PROGRESS UPDATE AND RECAP
So, to recap, we have the following colours so far:
1. Very deep blue/black
2. Lovat
3. Greeny Gold
We have two versions of this month’s hares motif, which we are working with colours 1 and 3. We will work one of motif A and one of motif B with a colour 1 background and colour 3 foreground, and we will work one of motif A and one of motif B with a colour 3 background and a colour 1 foreground, 4 squares in total.
(A couple of my hares on the right are slightly wrong!)
I have finished all my squares, but I am knitting ahead of you to make sure everything is right before I send your packages out. I have altered the design slightly for you: you have fewer lines marking the limbs of the hare, which I think works better to have that more solid centre. I have kept mine all the same because they will all be used together.
We have worked two big motif squares so far. Next month we are planning to send out a joining motif, which will be used to join big motif squares together, so we will be in a position to start sewing our squares together at that point. Exciting!
I have put a picture of last month’s squares here for reference.
BLODEUWEDD SOCKS COLOURWORK SHORT TUTORIAL
In case you haven’t done stranded colourwork before, it’s pretty straightforward, you just need to carry the resting yarn along with you while you work the active yarn. I carry the resting yarn along every few stitches: you don’t want big loops inside your socks for you toes to catch on. To carry the resting yarn along, just take the active yarn and pass it under and over the top of the resting yarn, then carry on knitting.

This is the inside of the sock I am working on currently, showing the loops where I have carried the resting yarn along with me. Those loops make the socks very cosy.
The good thing about working this sort of colourwork in the round is that you are always following the chart from right to left, which makes it easier to read.
FEBRUARY CLUB PROJECTS SENT OUT
We sent out all the February club projects yesterday, so you should expect to receive them this week. I will be back on 1st Feb to show you my blanket progress, and to do a tutorial for the sock club. See you then!
BLANKET & SOCK CLUBS: RAVELRY PROJECTS
BLANKET CLUB 2
Important Note: please note that the dot on the pattern indicates that that stitch should be purled on the right side of the knitting, and knit on the reverse of the knitting. So: whatever you would normally work that stitch as on that row to achieve stocking stitch (i.e. knit or purl), just reverse that wherever the dot appears. This will give us a selvedge that lies flatter, and will help us to seam the squares together neatly later on.
I’ve finished my first square now, which I’ve come along to show you here (video)
BLANKET CLUB 1
I am going to be knitting the club blanket along with you this year, and posting my progress here, starting with a video to say hello.
SOCK CLUB TUTORIAL 1, TOE UP CAST ON, M1L, M1R
- Toe up sock cast on:

Hold two double pointed needles together.
Bring the yarn up between the two needles.
Wind the yarn up over the top needle, bring it back through the middle, then take it down over the bottom needle, round the back, and up through the middle again, in a figure of eight style. continue doing this until you have the correct number of loops on each side.

Point a third needle into the right most loop on the top needle and knit it.
Knit across to the end of the row.

Knit across the stitches on the other needle.
Knit another round.
- M1L:

Knit the first st on the row, and then pick up and knit the st two rows down from the stitch you just knit, thus increasing by one stitch. - M1R:
Knit up to the last st in the row, then pick up and knit the st one row down from the last stitch on the row, then knit the last stitch on the row, thus increasing by one stitch.
Final Shot:

You have cast on your initial stitches and increased by one stitch at each end of one half of the toe.
All club yarn dyed and drying,
blanket pattern written, sock pattern being tested this evening, everything will be posted out first class on 27th. Exciting!
New Blanket Knitting Club
We’re excited to be able to run a blanket knitting club this year. It is based on a particular theme/concept, although this will remain a mystery until the first shipment is sent.
The club will include 12 shipments, one at the beginning of each month.
Each shipment will include:
- 100g of our hand dyed Sappho merino & silk thicker 4ply weight yarn (except: 200g in the first month, and no yarn in the final month). Sappho is a lovely soft & cosy yarn which will knit up into a sumptuous blanket with a subtle sheen.
- A new, themed, Violet Green blanket square design, created specially for the blanket (the item pictured here is an example only.) Two designs will be sent in the final month. Full instructions will be included for using the colours, and piecing this themed blanket together.
